SAN FRANCISCO, May 7, 2026 – Millions of U.S. PlayStation users may qualify for compensation under a proposed $7.85 million class action settlement involving Sony Interactive Entertainment and digital game purchases made through the PlayStation Store.
The settlement covers certain PlayStation users who bought qualifying digital games through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023. Eligibility applies to games that had previously been available through game-specific vouchers sold by retailers before Sony ended that distribution model in 2019, according to the official settlement website.
The lawsuit, Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Plaintiffs alleged that Sony violated federal antitrust law and certain state laws by restricting the market for PlayStation digital games, which they said caused consumers to pay higher prices for certain titles.
Sony denies wrongdoing, and the court has made no finding that the company violated the law.
U.S. District Judge Araceli MartÃnez-OlguÃn granted preliminary approval of the proposed settlement on April 8. Court filings state that the settlement totals $7.85 million and would be distributed mainly through cash-value PlayStation Network account credits deposited directly into eligible active PSN accounts.

The court order said about 4,407,533 eligible PSN accounts have been identified.
Active PSN account holders who qualify generally would need no claim form to receive payment. The proposed plan calls for Sony to identify eligible users through PSN account data and deposit account credits directly.
Users with deactivated PSN accounts may contact the settlement administrator and provide qualifying purchase information, PSN account details and a current mailing address to request payment by check.
The final amount each eligible user may receive has yet to be determined. Under the proposed allocation plan, the net settlement fund would be distributed on a pro rata basis tied to the number of qualifying purchases by each eligible claimant. Court-approved attorneys’ fees, costs, service awards and administration expenses would be deducted before distribution.
The settlement documents list a wide range of potentially qualifying games, including titles such as The Last of Us Remastered, Resident Evil 4, No Mans Sky, Bloodborne Complete Edition Bundle, NBA 2K18, Madden NFL 17, Destiny, Call of Duty Classic and God of War III Remastered.
Users who want to exclude themselves from the settlement or object to it must act by July 2, 2026. The deadline for eligible users with deactivated PSN accounts to submit a request for a check is August 27, 2026. A final approval hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026, in Oakland, California.
The court will decide at the final approval hearing whether the settlement terms are fair, reasonable and adequate, whether the allocation plan should be approved, and how much should be awarded in attorneys fees, costs and service payments.
For consumers, the most immediate step is to review the official settlement website and confirm whether any PlayStation Store purchases fall within the covered period and the eligible game list. Settlement payments will depend on final court approval, qualifying purchase records and deductions from the settlement fund.
