Social Security Payments in August 2026 – Full Calendar and Who Gets Paid

Social Security Payments in August 2026

Social Security beneficiaries have four main payment dates to watch in August 2026, but Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive their August money before the month begins.

The first regular Wednesday payment will arrive on August 12 for beneficiaries born from the 1st through the 10th. Two more rounds will follow on August 19 and August 26.

Another group will be paid earlier, on Monday, August 3. The date applies to people who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 and certain beneficiaries who receive both Social Security and SSI.

SSI recipients will not receive a federal SSI deposit during August. Their August payment is scheduled for Friday, July 31, because August 1 falls on a Saturday.

Social Security Payment Calendar for August 2026

The official Social Security payment calendar lists the following dates for August benefits.

Friday, July 31 Supplemental Security Income recipients August SSI payment arrives early because August 1 is a Saturday
Monday, August 3 People who started receiving Social Security before May 1997 Also applies to certain people receiving both Social Security and SSI
Wednesday, August 12 Beneficiaries born from the 1st through the 10th First birthday-based payment round

The August SSI Payment Arrives in July

SSI is normally paid on the first day of each month. When the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the Social Security Administration sends the payment on the previous business day.

August 1, 2026, is a Saturday. The August SSI deposit therefore moves to Friday, July 31.

Recipients will see two SSI deposits during July, one on July 1 for July benefits and another on July 31 for August benefits. The second deposit is not a bonus or an extra monthly benefit.

Our report on the final July Social Security payment explains why July does not end with the July 22 distribution.

The next regular SSI payment is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1.

Who Gets the August 3 Payment?

The August 3 deposit does not follow the birthday-based Wednesday schedule. It generally covers beneficiaries who started receiving Social Security before May 1997.

People receiving both Social Security and SSI may also follow the early-month schedule. Their SSI payment is normally paid on the first, and their Social Security benefit is normally paid on the third.

August 3 falls on a Monday in 2026, so no weekend or holiday adjustment is needed.

How the Birthday Payment Schedule Works?

Most people who began receiving Social Security after May 1997 are assigned a payment date according to the birthday connected to the benefit record.

  • Birthdays from the 1st through the 10th are paid on the second Wednesday.
  • Birthdays from the 11th through the 20th are paid on the third Wednesday.
  • Birthdays from the 21st through the 31st are paid on the fourth Wednesday.

A spouse, survivor or dependent receiving benefits from another worker’s record may need to use the worker’s birthday rather than their own.

How Much Can Someone Receive in August?

Payment dates do not determine payment amounts. A person’s monthly retirement benefit depends mainly on lifetime earnings, the age at which benefits began and the number of years worked in jobs covered by Social Security.

For someone beginning retirement benefits in 2026 after earning the taxable maximum throughout the required career period, the maximum monthly retirement benefit can reach:

Age when benefits begin Maximum monthly benefit in 2026
Age 62 $2,969
Full retirement age $4,152
Age 70 $5,181

Few retirees receive the maximum. The amount requires a long history of earnings at or above the annual Social Security taxable limit.

The estimated average retirement benefit in January 2026 was $2,071 per month. Individual payments can be considerably higher or lower.

Benefits increased by 2.8% for 2026 under the annual cost-of-living adjustment. Attention will soon turn to inflation data used for the next increase. Our 2027 Social Security COLA projection explains the calculation and the months that determine the final figure.

What to Do When a Payment Does Not Arrive?

A missing deposit does not always mean the Social Security Administration failed to issue it. Bank processing, account problems or changes to personal information can delay access to the money.

The agency advises beneficiaries to allow three additional mailing days after the expected date before reporting a missing payment.

Recipients should first contact their bank or financial institution. A beneficiary can then review the personal benefit payment schedule or call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 when the payment remains missing.

In case of appeal, you can now complete the process online.

Bottom Line

Social Security payments in August 2026 are scheduled for August 3, August 12, August 19 and August 26.

SSI recipients have a separate date. Their August payment will arrive early on Friday, July 31, because August 1 falls on a Saturday.

The early deposit does not provide an extra SSI payment. It only moves the normal August benefit into the final business day of July.
