The payment is moving up because Friday, July 3, 2026 is the federal holiday observance for Independence Day. July 4 falls on a Saturday, so federal offices observe the holiday one day earlier.
The Social Security Administration 2026 payment calendar lists the July payment for this group on July 2. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management also lists Friday, July 3 as the 2026 Independence Day holiday for federal workers.
Who Gets The July 2 Social Security Payment?
The July 2 payment is for beneficiaries who are usually paid on the 3rd of each month.
That group includes people who started receiving benefits before May 1997. It also includes people who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, known as SSI.
For people who receive both benefits, SSI is normally paid on the 1st of the month. Social Security is normally paid on the 3rd. In July 2026, that Social Security payment arrives one day early because July 3 is a federal holiday.
This is the regular July payment. It is not an extra check, bonus payment or new benefit.

Most Beneficiaries Still Follow The Wednesday Schedule
The July 2 date does not apply to most recipients.
Most retirement, survivor and disability beneficiaries are paid according to their birthday. People born from the 1st through the 10th are paid on the second Wednesday. People born from the 11th through the 20th are paid on the third Wednesday. People born from the 21st through the 31st are paid on the fourth Wednesday.
That means most beneficiaries will still receive their July payment on July 8, July 15 or July 22.

Some SSI Recipients Will See Two Deposits In July
SSI recipients should also note the July 31 payment date.
The July 31 deposit is not an extra July SSI payment. It is the August SSI payment sent early because August 1 falls on a Saturday.
That means some people who receive SSI may see one SSI payment on July 1 and another SSI deposit on July 31. The second deposit belongs to August.
What To Do If A Payment Is Late
The SSA says beneficiaries should wait three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security about a missing payment.
People who use direct deposit usually receive benefits faster than those who receive paper checks. Banks and card providers can also post deposits at different times during the day.
